Countries Experience: Democratic Republic of Congo

Recently, JSD took part in a "due diligence" exercise in the former Zaire - once known as the Belgian Congo, in central Africa.

The objective of the trip was to perform a detailed inspection of some closed mines, some of which were proposed to be re-opened.

It was an interesting trip.  Much of the mineral wealth of Zambia (DRC's southern neighbour) extends into the Congo, where there is less of a sustained history of mining.  Without doubt, the Congo is destined to become a minerals powerhouse of the future.
