JSD was sub-contracted to RSG Global mining consultants of this job, which involved conducting an owner mining study for Gold Fields Ghana Ltd, owners and operators of the Tarkwa gold project, located north of Takoradi in southern, coastal Ghana.
The job involved firstly conducting a cost study comparing the benefits of owner mining and contract mining, making a recommendation and then winding up the existing mining contract and introducing a new open pit mining fleet valued at approximately US$80 million.
The transition and implementation ran smoothly, with the whole job taking approximately 18 months.

RSGG had representatives on site throughout, and JSD made a number of visits, as part of the Owner Mining (OM) team.
